An anion bed is an anion exchanger, filled only with anion resins (strong base and weak base), which absorb anions such as chloride. A cation bed is a cation exchanger, filled only with cationic resins (strong acid and weak acid), which exchange and absorb cations such as Na+ and Ca+. A mixed bed (high-speed mixed bed) is a mixed ion exchanger, filled with both anionic and cationic resins, to remove excess anions and cations from the water. Anion and cation regeneration tanks are used to recover saturated anions and cations.
