Flotation Machine

Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) machines are efficient solid-liquid separation devices widely used in water and wastewater treatment. Their core principle is to generate tiny air bubbles (typically 10–100 μm in diameter) that attach to suspended particles, colloids, or oil droplets in water. This attachment increases the buoyancy of the pollutants, making them float to the water surface, where they are scraped off as scum—achieving the goal of separating impurities from water.

System Advantages

The purpose of a dissolved air flotation system is to reduce or remove chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), and aerosolized particulate matter (FOG) from industrial wastewater. The DAF system uses fine air bubbles (also known as "white water") that attach to suspended matter in the wastewater stream, increasing its buoyancy and causing it to rise to the surface. The floating solids are then removed by a simple yet effective scraper mechanism. Chemical conditioning agents are often used to enhance the efficiency of the DAF process.
The DAF process uses the most reliable and efficient method for generating optimally sized bubbles. Air is dissolved in water under pressure, and then a controlled nozzle orifice is used to reduce the pressure entering the DAF tank. As the pressure decreases, the air naturally escapes from the solution as microbubbles.

Working principle

Pollutants in wastewater are divided into dissolved organic matter (DOM) and insoluble solids (SS). Under certain conditions, DOM can be converted into insoluble substances. One method of wastewater treatment is to add coagulants and flocculants to convert most DOM into insoluble substances. This then removes all or most of the insoluble substances (SS) to purify the wastewater. The primary method for removing SS is flotation.

After the chemical addition reaction, the wastewater enters the flotation mixing zone, where it mixes with the released dissolved air and water, causing flocs to adhere to fine bubbles. These flocs then enter the flotation zone. The flocs rise to the surface under the action of buoyancy, forming scum. The clear water below flows through a water collector into a clear water tank, where a portion is returned for dissolved air, while the remaining clear water flows out through an overflow. When the scum accumulates to a certain thickness, it is scraped by a froth scraper into the flotation sludge tank for discharge.
